Use this after verbal agreement on scope and pricing but before legal review. SOWs should be generated when the prospect is 90% committed but needs formal documentation for internal approval.

• •Be ruthlessly specific in Out-of-Scope section - Vague exclusions cause scope creep. "Custom reporting beyond 3 standard reports" is better than "extensive custom reporting."
• •Front-load customer responsibilities - Make prerequisites clear. If they don't provide data access by Week 2, timeline shifts. Document this explicitly.
• •Use milestone-based payments, not time-based - "30% upon POC approval" beats "30% at end of Month 2" (what if POC isn't ready?)
• •Include change management process - The generated SOW has this. Use it! Scope changes MUST go through formal change order process.

🚨 Common Mistakes to Avoid

• ✗Accepting "we'll define requirements during discovery phase" - No. Define enough upfront to scope properly or risk massive overruns.
• ✗Skipping exit criteria for phases - Every phase needs measurable "done" criteria. "UAT complete" is too vague. "80% of test cases pass" is specific.
• ✗Underestimating Tier 3+ timelines - Deep learning projects take 3-6 months minimum. Don't promise 8-week delivery to win the deal.
• ✗Forgetting infrastructure costs - SOW should state "customer provides AWS environment" or "vendor provisions infrastructure at cost + 20% markup."
